Our times require us to step fully into our calling, the gift that each of us brings with us, the contribution that we're good at and makes us come alive. I recently made a commitment to step forward with what I know is right, even when it makes for uncomfortable communica-tions--for example, supporting friends in eating less meat, because of what it's doing to drive climate destabilization and species extinction.
What is our edge, and how can we step beyond that? What training can we utilize to be maximally effective? One powerful way I've found to deepen my resolve, my clarity and my stamina is to take a few days and go on my own retreat in nature, where I can ask Gaia for guidance and assistance in a sacred manner. I do this often, and in fact am starting a formal vision quest program this summer, working with a shamanic guide over the next 4 summers in New Mexico.
I recommend assessing where you are in each major arena--heart, body, intellect, spirit--and seeing how we can continue to deepen, nourish, express, and appreciate. It's wonderful to be alive at a time when there is so much wisdom and effective practices available everywhere--but it's up to us to take full advantage of it, and to support our friends in doing the same.
In this spirit, I wish to express my deep appreciation for all of my past and present teachers... and my awesome team members in my education and arts organizations, who I know are taking my challenge and willing to kick my ass when called for--what only a true friend will do!
